A Letter From Dr. Ken

Hi!

My name is Ken Akey, M.D. I am a Board Certified Pediatrician/MD and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

I attended the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, and have been blessed to be in private practice for over 25 years.

I love to practice a “one-on-one” Doctor/Patient relationship, as I very much enjoy getting to know each child and his/her family!

I believe in helping parents provide a “moral compass” for their precious children, especially during the often turbulent teen years. Close, loving ,family bonds, along with consistent discipline and respect for parents, may well set the stage for success and happiness down the path.

Let me tell you about my main interests. I have always had a wonderful Newborn Practice. Nothing is more fun than to work with Mamas and Dads as they embark upon the most wonderful journey of their lives. I want to make sure that things start off great! I am a strong proponent of Breastfeeding. Simply, there is NO other food for babies as perfect, as Mothers milk! There are so many other reasons to nurse, if you possibly can. I love to discuss these with our Mamas. We work closely with lactation consultants, to help you get started!

Second love: Nutrition. Don’t get me started! There is so much misinformation and so little teaching on such an important issue. I feel that my job is to teach and encourage good nutritional health practices to all my families. Obesity, allergies, immune related health problems, cancer and degenerative illnesses can mostly be prevented, through simple changes to ones lifestyle/diet. Each visit, I discuss diet, exercise, nutrition, and supplements. Let’s get going!

Third: Developmental Pediatrics. I love to work with parents form birth through college to discern normal developmental mile stones, of your children. Keeping a watchful eye, fo any delays and aggressively intervening with specialists, when necessary is a priority for me. Reading, singing, music, arts, and family time are topics frequently discussed. Discipline and a moral compass are also paramount.

When I am not at the office, I enjoy church activities, working out, and am eager to spend time with my wife, Laurie, my four grown children, their spouses, and three PERFECT grandchildren.

While there are many choices in telemedicine, one thing that has become extremely unique in my practice is that you always see the same doctor, with continuity of care. My primary concern is to provide quality care for children and families everywhere.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Akey M.D., F.A.A.P.
